You Have A Personal Injury In A Car Accident? Know The Facts

By John Francis Amberden

Have you ever been involved in a car accident where you were injured seriously? What would you do in such a situation? The first thing to ever do is administer first aid and call for help. Knowing the facts in the case of personal injury from a car accident forms the crux of our topic today.

Let us first discuss the common types of injuries that may happen in a car accident. The first type of injuries is known as whiplash injuries. Whiplash injuries are the most common types of injuries to occur in any country. Whiplash injuries may include damage to the neck or the spine and muscles around the neck. The extent of the injury might be little or more depending on the case. The effects of the injury might be observed for a short time or in many cases it can also be permanent. In some cases a whiplash injury can leave the neck or the spine permanently damaged. The injuries are diagnosed by using x rays by the doctor. The doctor will also use the x rays to see if any injury has been caused to vertebra and the extent of damage to the neck. The next most common types of injuries are the head injuries. Head injuries can prove to be fatal as a serious blow to the head can cause damage to the brain. Damage to the brain can occur at the time of the accident or over time as the internal injury can aggravate. The third type of injuries is bodily injuries which can occur on the arms and the legs. If they are small, they can be treated and healed in a few days. If they are big like a fracture then it can take anywhere between a fortnight to months to heal completely.

So what should you normally do when you meet with an accident and get personally injured? The first and the foremost thing is to call the emergency number and call for an ambulance immediately. Also if you are seriously injured then you can tell the passers by to get the necessary information of your family members and the doctors from your car or wallet and call them up immediately. The course of treatment will depend on how deep the injury is and on which part of the body is injured. Try not to panic too much as this can raise your blood pressure. Stay calm. Do not try to move too much. Moving can seriously aggravate the injuries inside and can bring permanent damage to any body part.

When the ambulance arrives try to answer the questions that the staff may ask? The medical team may ask you questions while administering you doses of medication and checking your vitals, heart beats etc. Answer truthfully all the questions of the medical team. Ask the medical team to call your family members and inform them about the accident. Do follow the instructions of the doctors to ensure your speedy recovery. When you are discharged from hospital do take a few days of rest at home and resume work only when you feel fully fit and fine.

Last but not least. Answer any questions by the police truthfully. Do not lie! If you feel the need to lie or you are worried about the situation, ask for an attorney to be present. Mistakes here can cost you more than money. And money will be no problem if you carry car insurance.

Australia: Andrea Wildin, Greens candidate in Stretton state by-election, discusses political issues with Wikinews

Saturday, July 10, 2021

After the resignation of Australian Labor Party Member of Parliament Duncan Pegg of the Queensland branch, voters in the Queensland electoral district of Stretton are to go to a by-election on July 24.

Pegg announced his resignation on April 22 to deal with a cancer diagnosis, and died on June 10. Stretton covers suburbs in south Brisbane such as Calamvale, Sunnybank Hills, Kuraby, and the eponymous town. At the 2020 Queensland state election, Pegg won 56.59% of the first preference vote in Stretton, with his closest opponent being Peter Zhuang of the Liberal National Party, who won 30.21% of the vote.

Since the seat’s establishment in 2001, it has been held by the Labor Party except for one exception in the 2012 Queensland state election, which was a victory for the Liberal National Party, who won 78 of Queensland’s 89 seats. Pegg was first elected in 2015, after defeating the Liberal National incumbent Freya Ostapovitch.

Five candidates are running in this by-election, including Andrea Wildin of the Greens. The Greens’ website describes Wildin as a former nurse and midwife, who now has been “volunteering as a disability advocate throughout the COVID-19 pandemic”, being a wheelchair user herself. Wildin previously ran for the Greens in Stretton at the previous state election, coming in third place among four candidates and winning 8.71% of the vote. Wikinews spoke to Wildin in an interview via email about issues such as the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare, and more important subjects both on a statewide and local level.

Former NASA astronaut Eugene Cernan dies aged 82

Wednesday, January 18, 2017

Eugene Cernan, former NASA astronaut and the most recent human to walk on the Moon, died on Monday aged 82, according to a NASA statement. Cernan, who commanded the Apollo 17 mission to the Moon in 1972, was in Houston, Texas, at the time of his death.

Cernan, who was born in Chicago, Illinois, on March 14, 1934, earned engineering degrees from Purdue University in 1956 and the Naval Postgraduate School in 1963. He was an aviator in the United States Navy and logged more than 200 landings on aircraft carriers before becoming an astronaut in 1963. He flew in space for the first time aboard Gemini 9 in 1966. In 1969 Cernan flew aboard Apollo 10, a flight to the Moon that rehearsed a descent but purposefully did not land in preparation for the Apollo 11 landing. Cernan’s final flight into space was as commander of Apollo 17, the final lunar landing mission of the Apollo program, in which he spent three days exploring the lunar surface along with Harrison Schmitt.

Following Apollo 17, Cernan worked on the Apollo-Soyuz project before retiring from NASA and the Navy in 1976. In his later years he became an executive and consultant, wrote an autobiography, and advocated for returning to the Moon along with Neil Armstrong, the first human to walk on the Moon, who died in 2012.

“Truly, America has lost a patriot and pioneer who helped shape our country’s bold ambitions to do things that humankind had never before achieved,” NASA Administrator Charles Bolden said in a statement.

Which Type Of Businesses Should Go For Factoring

Submitted by: James Hert

Ideally, businesses should run smoothly. Every crucial aspect should work together with each other to increase revenue and bring success within more reach.

Ideally, businesses should run smoothly. Every crucial aspect should work together with each other to increase revenue and bring success within more reach. Sometimes, though, the problem is that all the aspects that lead to the generation of income are all fine and well, but the income itself is proving tough to get.

When this happens, businesses may be put in an unpleasant situation. The money that is vital to making business operations run (such as payroll, marketing needs, and others) has not yet arrived, so those operations are in danger of being compromised.

Fortunately, when businesses find that their account receivables or invoices have still not been sorted by their customers and they need money for continuing business operation and processes, they can turn to companies that provide account receivables factoring or debt factoring. This business funding services Company can do a lot in issuing the business capital that they need.

But, which businesses would stand to gain more from factoring services? Is yours one of them?

The following are the markers that point to whether or not your company would do well to ask for factoring help from business finance services.

1. Your customers are trustworthy: Factoring, the process of selling your account receivables to a business funding services Company, comes with the risk of not collecting the receivables. This risk is only managed if you can give a guarantee that your customers would indeed pay up. Also, there are additional financial sanctions that you may have to face if you applied for account receivables funding or debt factoring and have been approved but the company gets into complications with collecting funds from the customers you have received an invoice from.

2. You run a product-based business: Looking for business funding services companies would be better if your business is such that your expected account receivables would come from products that you have already supplied to your customers. If your business focuses on collecting funds prior to the delivery of the goods, you?d have a harder time getting a factoring company to give you the business capital that you need.

3. You run a service-based business: Issuing invoices to customers after you have done them a particular service is also good for getting account receivables factoring or debt factoring. Business funding services providers would not have to worry about getting the invoices paid as your clients would have had the benefits of those services, thus putting them in a better mood to sign the bill and put forth the money they owe.

It is also worth noting that there are plenty of companies which are willing to give businesses the capital and funding they need, when they don?t quite have it. So, you wouldn?t have to look far and wide for a business capital source. When looking for these companies, however, don?t forget to make sure that they are reputable and credible before asking them for help. This way, you are assured that asking for financial help would not lead to more problems that would culminate in you needing even more help.

Wikinews interviews Anda Banikos, local council candidate in South Gippsland, Australia

Wikinews interviews Anda Banikos, local council candidate in South Gippsland, Australia

Wednesday, September 15, 2021

Since June 2019, the people of South Gippsland Shire, located at the southernmost tip of Australia, have been without a local council, after a state government inquiry found “high levels of tension” within the council. Administrators were appointed by the Victorian state government in July 2019, who have governed the shire since then. However, South Gippsland’s council is scheduled to be restored with an election to be held via post from October 5-22, 2021.

Wikinews interviewed one of the candidates standing in this election, Anda Banikos, an independent candidate running in the Coastal-Promontory Ward. The Coastal-Promontory ward covers towns such as Venus Bay, Waratah Bay, Yanakie, Foster, Port Welshpool, and Toora, and elects three councillors to the South Gippsland Shire Council.

Tom Cruise debates psychiatry on NBC’s Today show

Tom Cruise debates psychiatry on NBC’s Today show

Saturday, June 25, 2005

In an interview on NBC’s Today show with Matt Lauer, Tom Cruise aggressively defended his opposition to psychiatry and anti-depressive drugs. This occurred after being asked questions about his criticism of Brooke Shields, who has been taking drugs, including Paxil, for postpartum depression. Cruise is usually known for keeping his cool in interviews, but recently he has been slightly more unbound.

Cruise’s statements, including “Psychiatry is a pseudoscience“, and “There is no such thing as a chemical imbalance in a body”, reflect the beliefs of the Church of Scientology, of which he is a member. The interview became particularly tense when Lauer mentioned that he knew people who had been helped by taking Ritalin, an attention-deficit disorder drug.

“Matt, Matt, you don’t even — you’re glib,” Cruise responded. “You don’t even know what Ritalin is. If you start talking about chemical imbalance, you have to evaluate and read the research papers on how they came up with these theories, Matt, OK. That’s what I’ve done.”

Cruise went on to say: “You don’t know the history of psychiatry, I do.”

Cruise has not formally studied medicine beyond a high school education, having dropped out in his senior year (1980) to pursue an acting career. In light of this, some members of the psychiatric community have refuted Cruise’s controversial statements. Dr. John Scully, medical director of the American Psychiatric Association, has said “The illnesses we treat – anxiety, depression – are very real illnesses…The treatments work. We have demonstrated that through robust scientific study.”

Lauer insisted that Ritalin helped people: “You’re telling me what’s worked for people I know or hasn’t worked for people I know. I’m telling you, I’ve lived with these people and they’re better,” Lauer said.

Cruise hinted that Lauer was promoting Ritalin and Lauer scoffed: “I am not. I’m telling you in their cases, in their individual case, it worked.”

The exchange ended when the two basically agreed to disagree. Cruise, who is 42, did admit that one of his goals is to speak more about Scientology in an effort to get people to understand it better.

Scientology has historically been at odds with the established medical and mental health community. The rift dates back to the 1950s and Scientology’s founding father L. Ron Hubbard. In his book, “Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health”, published in 1950, Hubbard claims that Dianetics (later called Scientology) could cure the majority of human ailments. These claims were sharply disputed by a variety of mainstream science and medical professionals including psychiatrists.

On Monday, June 27, 2005, the American Psychiatric Association released a statement that stated the following:”It is irresponsible for Mr. Cruise to use his movie publicity tour to promote his own ideological views and deter people with mental illness from getting the care they need…Rigorous, published, peer-reviewed research clearly demonstrates that treatment (of mental illness) works…It is unfortunate that in the face of this remarkable scientific and clinical progress that a small number of individuals and groups persist in questioning its legitimacy.”

The APA represents nearly 36,000 physicians specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness.

Edmund White on writing, incest, life and Larry Kramer

Edmund White on writing, incest, life and Larry Kramer

Thursday, November 8, 2007

What you are about to read is an American life as lived by renowned author Edmund White. His life has been a crossroads, the fulcrum of high-brow Classicism and low-brow Brett Easton Ellisism. It is not for the faint. He has been the toast of the literary elite in New York, London and Paris, befriending artistic luminaries such as Salman Rushdie and Sir Ian McKellen while writing about a family where he was jealous his sister was having sex with his father as he fought off his mother’s amorous pursuit.

The fact is, Edmund White exists. His life exists. To the casual reader, they may find it disquieting that someone like his father existed in 1950’s America and that White’s work is the progeny of his intimate effort to understand his own experience.

Wikinews reporter David Shankbone understood that an interview with Edmund White, who is professor of creative writing at Princeton University, who wrote the seminal biography of Jean Genet, and who no longer can keep track of how many sex partners he has encountered, meant nothing would be off limits. Nothing was. Late in the interview they were joined by his partner Michael Caroll, who discussed White’s enduring feud with influential writer and activist Larry Kramer.

Three Things You May Not Know About Your Roofing Company In Chicago

byadmin

If you own a home or a business and have had it for more than a few years you have probably worked with roofer or roofing company in Chicago at some point in time. You may have just needed to repair an area that was leaking or you may have had to replace failing shingles with a whole new roof. If you have a good experience with the company you would probably call them if another problem with the roof occurred, but before you hire them make sure to check out these additional points.

Approval by the Manufacturer

Many of the new roofing systems, both on residential homes and commercial buildings, are much more complicated and specific than the old roofing options of even a decade ago. For these systems the manufacturer of the roofing material may require special training or approval to warranty the roofing materials.

Always ask if the roofing company in Chicago you are considering has this level of approval or training by the manufacturer. Without it you may have serious problems should you need to claim against the warranty at a later time.

Certified Roofing Inspectors

Any roofing company in Chicago that offers you the option to have an inspection of your roof prior to work should be using trained and certified inspectors. Unfortunately most clients never ask this and many of the less reputable companies send out sales reps to do an “inspection”, which is really just a way to sell you more.

Ask if the roofing company in Chicago is sending out a certified roof inspector to make sure the person examining your roof really knows what they are doing and will provide an honest report that isn’t designed to sell you more products and services.

Product Options

Talk to your roofing company in Chicago to find out what roofing materials they recommend given your particular home or commercial building. There have been many advances in the durability of roofing materials and top companies are able to offer their customers an honest breakdown of benefits, costs and options.

Your current roofing company in Chicago may be the perfect match for you and highly professional. If they aren’t remember you can always shop around and choose a company that does offer the services that you need.

Canada, EU, UK, US impose sanctions on Belarus over Ryanair hijacking

Wednesday, June 23, 2021

On Monday, Canada, the European Union (EU), the United Kingdom and the United States imposed new sanctions on senior officials and entities in Belarus over the May 23 diversion of a Ryanair flight and subsequent arrest of dissident journalist Roman Protasevich and his girlfriend Sofia Sapega, as well as “repressive practices” committed by the Belarusian government.

The joint action was aimed at putting pressure on Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko’s “regime”, a joint statement read, citing “continued attacks on human rights, fundamental freedoms, and international law”, as well as the “politically motivated” arrest of Mr Protasevich and Ms Sapega.

The statement went on to express support for “the long-suppressed democratic aspirations of the people of Belarus”, calling for Belarusian co-operation in investigations into the incident, the release of all political prisoners, adherence to the recommendations of an expert mission by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), of which Belarus is a participating state, and OSCE-facilitated dialogue between the government and opposition.

The circumstances surrounding the forced landing of Ryanair flight FR4978 from Lithuania to Greece in Minsk, the Belarusian capital, are contested. As reported by Sky News, state media says the diversion was due to threat of explosives on board, a claim Global Affairs Canada calls “dubious and still unverified”.

Total restrictive measures varied between the countries and regional organisation. Canada sanctioned 17 new individuals for a total of 72, and five entities described in a press release as being “due to the ongoing disregard for human rights demonstrated”.

The EU, through the Council of the European Union, extended its restrictive measures by 78 individuals and eight entities related either to human rights violations or the “forced and unlawful landing”, to a total of 166 individuals and fifteen entities. Those who are impacted, including judges, businesspeople, university rectors and government ministers, will be subject to an asset freeze, and persons affected prohibited to enter or transit through EU territory.

The measures also prohibit EU citizens and companies from making money available to the designated. According to the Associated Press, EU policy chief Josep Borrell said the measures “are going to hurt […] the economy of Belarus heavily”. The decision to affect entities, not just individuals, foreign minister of Germany Heiko Maas said, will impact the “economic areas that are of particular significance for Belarus and for the regime’s income”; those targeted include the export of fertiliser ingredient potash, and those of tobacco and petroleum.

The United Kingdom furthered sanctions levied with Canada in September on eight Belarusian officials, including Lukashenko, his son, and senior government members. New restrictions include eleven individuals and two entities, which are henceforth subject to asset freezes and travel bans.

Among those targeted includes petroleum exporter BNK (UK) Ltd, which, according to its 2019 report of the director presented to Companies House, “provides intermediate services to oil sector companies” in Belarus. According to a government press release, UK foreign secretary Dominic Raab said “cutting off oil export revenue streams” was one way the government would “hold the [Belarusian] regime to account”.

The United States, through the State Department and Office of Foreign Assets Control under the Treasury Department, imposed visa restrictions on 46 Belarusian individuals holding “key positions” in the country, according to a press release, and added 16 individuals and five entities to a designated list. In addition to concerns of the country’s “transnational repression” and “affronts to international efforts”, the US also cited the “fraudulent” 2020 Belarusian presidential election as cause for the sanctions’ imposition.

The timing of the sanctions was questioned by Belarusian Nikolai Shchekin on state media network the Belarusian Telegraph Agency, noting the date June 21 is one day before the anniversary of the start of the German invasion of the Soviet Union, or the “Great Patriotic War”. According to CNN, the US attempted to announce its sanctions earlier, prior to a meeting between US president Joe Biden and president of Russia Vladimir Putin, but was held up by the EU.
