Britain’s National Gallery revealed on Friday that by X-raying one of Leonardo Da Vinci’s paintings, “Virgin of the Rocks”, they have found a drawing beneath the surface of the painting. The drawing is of a woman who is raising her arm and looking downcast. The drawing had been previously dismissed as a mere copy of a similar drawing that is hanging in Paris’ Louvre museum.

Boxing great Muhammed Ali dies aged 74

Sunday, June 5, 2016

Legendary boxing great Muhammed Ali died on Friday aged 74 in a hospital in Phoenix, Arizona in the United States. A family spokesperson said Ali had been admitted with respiratory problems. The former heavyweight champion lived with Parkinson’s disease for decades, diagnosed in 1984.

Born on January 17, 1942 as Cassius Marcellus Clay, he changed his name to Muhammed Ali after his 1964 conversion to Islam. In his professional career, Ali won 56 out of 61 fights — including 31 consecutive wins. He won the World Heavyweight Championship three times and had also won an Olympic gold medal in the light-heavyweight category.

Often considered the greatest boxer of all time, Ali was the world heavyweight champion in the 1960s and 1970s. His famous fights with George Foreman in 1974 when he won his title back and against Joe Frazier are considered by many as two of the greatest fights in the sport’s history. Ali had also defeated Sonny Liston to claim the championship title.

Ali was also known as a political activist. He came under considerable controversy after his decision to refuse the Vietnam War draft.

He lit the flame in the 1996 Olympics hosted in Atlanta.

His funeral is to be in Kentucky.

How To Buy Reos, Bank Owned And Foreclosure Homes

By Bruce Swedal

An REO property is a home which has been acquired by a lending institution through a foreclosure process. Basically they are homes which mortgage companies have take possession of after an unsuccessful foreclosure auction. Foreclosure auctions on homes are nearly always unsuccessful because the minimum bid on these properties has to cover the outstanding balances owed to any lien holder to the property. This would include the loan balance, any accrued interest, fees for attorneys and costs incurred during foreclosure. All these things nearly always amount to more than the property is worth. Once the minimum bid at a foreclosure auction is not met possession of the property goes to the mortgage holder in the form of an REO.

Once the bank owns the property the mortgage is no longer in place. Then the bank will handle any eviction process, occasionally make basic repairs, negotiate any tax liens and make take care of home owner association dues. Recently banks have moved away from paying the fees for closing and are making these fees the responsibility of the home buyer.

You really do need to understand that mortgage institutions are not interested in just dumping the property on the market. They are still interested in making the process as profitable as possible or limiting their losses. They don’t just give the property away for pennies on the dollar. When you find a REO property and make an offer, the bank will generally come back with a counter offer. You can generally count on some negotiations to get to a price that both sides agree with. Banks have an obligation to their shareholders, auditors and investors that they are working to get the best possible price for their assets. You should be prepared for a game of offer and counter offer.

A deal with a bank is not your typical real estate transaction. You can expect it to take a longer amount of time than normal and delays are a real possibility. Each time a document is generated in an offer several individuals need to review and approve it to be effective. It is common to get a preliminary approval of an offer which still needs to get final approval from a higher up. Things like this are some of the many things that make negotiating on REO property unique.

Most often mortgage institutions will want to sell the property as is so you will want to make sure that you conduct good inspections of the property to understand its condition. Banks will often refuse to make repairs on the property so you will want to take this into account when you make an offer. In some instances banks may renegotiate if after the inspection you find that the repairs will be substantial. The mortgage institution may feel that lowering the price is a better option than putting the property back on the market again.

In those instances where the bank will not move on the price and you get a rejection, you should consider watching the property for another month and if it is still available you can resubmit your initial offer again with adjusted dates. After an additional month with the home not selling they may be more inclined to take your offer.

A couple things you should have your agent find out prior to making your offer are:

Do they have any inspection reports you can look at?

Is it being sold as-is with a as-is form? How long can it take for the bank to respond? In what way will offers be presented?

You should realize that when dealing with a bank nothing will happen in the evenings or on weekends. The offers to bank owned homes are typically faxed or electronically delivered with no actual face to face interaction. To speed the process along provide a lenders pre-qualification letter with your offer. If you let them know you’re serious by having your financing in place they will take your offer seriously.

An REO is a good way to buy a property in distress without having to deal with a seller. There is only you, your agent, the agent for the bank and the bank’s representative who are negotiating.

Chrysler files for bankruptcy, Fiat Group SpA to run company

Chrysler files for bankruptcy, Fiat Group SpA to run company

Friday, May 1, 2009

The American auto company Chrysler filed for bankruptcy Thursday, however a deal with European auto maker Fiat went through. The emerging Chrysler will be owned 55 percent by the United Auto Workers, eight percent by the United States Government, two percent by the Canadian Government and Fiat would begin with a 20 percent share.

Chrysler Chief Executive Robert Nardelli will step down when the bankruptcy proceedings are finalized.

Initially, the Italian company, Fiat, will appoint three members on the emerging Chrysler’s new board, and the United States government will appoint six. Fiat can assume the majority of the ownership upon repayment of American loans.

Chrysler administrators expect that the bankruptcy should take a couple of months.

“We expect this to be a very short, 30-to-60-day bankruptcy process, during which the company will function normally,” a top administration official said, “People will be able to buy cars, they will have their warranties honored, and everything should go on normally.”

The bankruptcy filing indicated that Chrysler was in debt to 20 creditors to a tune of more than $10 million each.

Meanwhile, the deal with Fiat did go through, and Chrysler should have cars designed by Fiat out on the market by 2011.

“It’s a partnership that will give Chrysler a chance not only to survive, but to thrive in a global auto industry,” said American president Obama, “Fiat has demonstrated that it can build the clean, fuel-efficient cars that are the future of the industry.”

However, automotive analyst Erich Merkle has hesitations.

“History would show that alliances really don’t work that well,” Merkle said, “even though, no matter how good they may look on paper.”

The restructuring has been managed by Steve Rattner, a former investment banker, and the U.S. Government auto task force.

Obama has set three ultimatums before Fiat. Fiat should produce a 40 mile per gallon vehicle while managing the new Chrysler, transfer fuel efficient Fiat technology to Chrysler factories in the United States, and produce cars in Chrysler factories and distribute them in Europe.

Fancy Or Casual Bar Stools What Style Is Right For You?

By Ben Weissman

Selecting the right bar stools is a challenge, especially concerning stylistic choices. The good news is there are some great options available in bar stools to fit virtually anything you may be after. The bad news is you have to determine which of those styles works best for you. That is not as easy. How will you know which style is the best for you? Take into consideration a few of the barstools on the market and see if they match the look you are after.

Fancy may be your thing if you are looking for an elegant space to entertain with. If it is more than just having the guys over, and the bar area will be a fashion piece in your space, then definitely look towards the more elegant pieces. For example, consider pub barstools, which often have a backed seat and long legs. These look great at your breakfast bar, your more upscale typical bar or even in your grill area. One of the best features of these more elegant option is their design elements. Wrought iron barstools are an excellent choice because the metal barstools offer a modern feel. They work well with other metal accompaniments as well as providing

The casual barstool works in a variety of areas. Casual bar stools are simply defined as simpler than fancy. For example, they can be found in various materials including metal bar stools, wood bar stools and even others. In addition to this, they can still have some style to them. Take into consideration a simple bar stool. With its metal design, it offers a swivel seat and a backing, but without a lot of ornate details. It is in a simple black or silver color and has a black seating to it. While this is simple enough to be casual, it is still nice enough for guests. This type of design works the best in bar areas in your home that are less formal, such as in a basement or back room. Choose casual bar stools for outdoor use too, but only if they are designed for outdoor use.

Informal spaces really require a simple design and here is where you can get away with discount bar stools. For example, if you have a countertop where you would like to add a few bar stools for extra seating, but the space surrounding it is very casual, go with a more casual stool.

Not only should you look at the color and the cut of the piece but the overall style the bar stool offers. For example, more modern or contemporary bar stools will work well in upscale areas. These will have details and often embellishments that add character. Rivets, fabrics with patterns or wrought iron work on their backs are common additions.

When it comes to finding the right style of bar stool for your space, find a stool you just love. Perhaps you want simple, no backed wood bar stools to create that old world feel.

Israel and Palestinian militants agree to ceasefire after worse Gaza violence since 2014

Wednesday, November 14, 2018

On Tuesday, Hamas and the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine, among other Palestinian militant groups in the Gaza Strip, announced a ceasefire agreement with Israel. The agreement was brokered by Egypt and the United Nations.

A renewal of violence between Israel and militants in Gaza occurred on Monday and Tuesday. According to Hamas, hostilities resumed as a consequence of an Israeli raid within Gaza. The raid operation occurred on Sunday, killing seven Palestinian militants and an Israeli officer.

About 400 rockets were fired from Gaza. Israel’s Iron Dome air defensive system intercepted some of these, some missed their targets, but some still reached cities. Israel, meanwhile, launched over 100 aerial strikes on militant targets, and naval strikes against Hamas ships.

The latest confrontation marks the worst fighting between the two sides since 2014. The Palestian Ministry of Health reported seven Palestinians were killed, and Israel announced a Palestinian from Hebron was killed in a rocket strike on a residential building in Ashkelon. Others also suffered wounds, especially shrapnel wounds.

Prior to the recent violence, Israel and Hamas were making progress on a long-term diplomatic solution involving financial aid for Gaza. Israel’s assistance was to come with the condition that Hamas crack down on protests along the Israeli-Gazan border, as well as restrict flying incendiary kites into Israel.

Victoria Wyndham was one of the most seasoned and accomplished actresses in daytime soap opera television. She played Rachel Cory, the maven of Another World‘s fictional town, Bay City, from 1972 to 1999 when the show went off the air. Wyndham talks about how she was seen as the anchor of a show, and the political infighting to keep it on the air as NBC wanted to wrest control of the long-running soap from Procter & Gamble. Wyndham fought to keep it on the air, but eventually succumbed to the inevitable. She discusses life on the soap opera, and the seven years she spent wandering “in the woods” of Los Angeles seeking direction, now divorced from a character who had come to define her professional career. Chelsea survived a Champions League scare today after coming back from 1-0 down to defeat Portuguese side Porto at Stamford Bridge in London. The first leg of the match ended 1-1, giving Chelsea the advantage thanks to the away goals rule, and Porto needed a win or a draw of 2 all or higher to advance to the next round. Porto fielded a defensive side, leaving Portuguese international striker Helder Postiga out of the starting lineup, while Chelsea featured Andriy Shevchenko and Didier Drogba on attack.

Shevchenko almost opened the scoring early in the game, having a poweful shot from 20 yard fly just over the bar and out of play. The early attack did little to inspire Chelsea though, as they looked sluggish for the first parts of the game. Porto took advantage of Chelsea’s poor start, and scored in the 15th minute on a counter attack. Lopez quickly passed the ball up to Gonzales in the center of the pitch, who split the defence with a well aimed ball that released Qauresma on a break away. The Portuguese player made no mistake about his shot, and slid it neatly past Petr Cech to give the visiting team the lead. Chelsea vainly attempted to draw level, but none of their first half chances were able to find the target to trouble keeper da Helton. Chelsea had a claim for a penalty nearing 35 minutes when Arjen Robben after he was apparently tripped up by Raul Moreiles, but the Dutch midfielded was awarded a yellow card instead for his theatrical dive. Chelsea’s defence supplied the most attack for the English Champions, as Ashley Cole made a fine cross into the box which was poorly cleared by Ricardo Costa, and the Ball broke for Michael Ballack. Costa was quick to justify his mistake and he poked the ball away from Ballack before he could get a shot away. The biggest worry for Porto came when Jorge Fucile was struck in the face by the trailing arm off a teammate, and left the field with blood streaming from his nose.

The second half saw Fucile retake the pitch, his injury obviously not too serious. Chelsea made a change to start the second half, adding John Obi Mikel in place of Claude Makelele. It took Chelsea only 3 minutes after the restart to get back into the match, and the goal came through Arjen Robben. The Dutchman cleaved a shot from 25 yards, and even though it lack power, de Helton was not able to get a grip on it and the ball slipped past him into the net. The goal tied not only the game, but also the series, and the scoreline would force extra time. Chelsea wouldn’t allow the game to get that far though, and Ashley Cole, Andriy Shevchenko and Michael Ballack all contributed to the winning goal. A cross by Cole was headed down by Shevy, and neatly volleyed into the net by the German Ballack. Porto pressed, but the Chelsea defence easily coped, and Chelsea advanded to next round of the Champions League.
